ABOUT THE COMPANY
Who We Are
Welcome to the Dragon Mine, a storied part of the Tintic mining district's rich heritage. Our mine's roots trace back to the discovery of valuable ores in this area in 1869 by George Rust, a testament to the enduring legacy of mining in Tintic. Over the years, this district played a pivotal role in the nation's silver production, with notable mines like Chief Consolidated and Tintic Standard making their mark. The Dragon Mine, now under new ownership as of 2022, continues this tradition with a focus on iron ore. While we may not be mining silver or lead-zinc, we carry forward the spirit of innovation and resourcefulness that defined this region's mining history. Join us as we explore new opportunities and contribute to the ongoing story of Tintic's mining legacy.
Geology and Mineralization
The Dragon Mine's iron oxide production is rooted in a rich geological history dating back to the late 19th century. Valuable ore deposits were formed through mineral-rich fluids in fractures within rock layers. These deposits, including replacement veins and fissure veins, have been the primary source of our iron ore.
Our ore is found in rocks spanning hundreds of millions of years, such as sandstone, limestone, shale, dolomite, and quartzite. The Main Tintic district, where our mine is located, boasts five significant ore zones, all shaped by replacement deposits.
While our focus is iron oxide, this region's geological history includes various minerals like gold, silver, and copper. We are proud to continue the legacy of resourcefulness and innovation that defines this area's mining heritage."
